Cosmetic dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is the field of dentistry that creates a more balanced and brighter smile by studying the classic design principles found in nature.

We all know first impressions are important. Having a smile that exudes warmth, happiness and confidence helps us create a favourable impression with whom we interact.

Creating a beautiful smile requires an understanding of biology as well as artistic flair. We look at each element of your smile from the shape, shade and position of your teeth, to the relationship of the teeth to the gums and other supporting tissues.

Dr Mark Calvert is very experienced in all facets of cosmetic dentistry and can transform your smile from worn-out to wonderful.

As a result of advancements in dental materials and procedures, you don’t have to accept chipped, stained or missing teeth. Treatments such as porcelain veneers, dental implants and crowns allow our Brisbane cosmetic dentist to correct imperfections and create elegant, natural looking smiles. Even subtle changes, such as teeth whitening, can have a dramatic impact on your appearance.

We want our patients to achieve the smile they want. That’s why our Brisbane cosmetic dentist will begin your smile makeover process with a consultation. During this appointment, you will have the chance to share your views and aspirations. Along with the clinical findings from the examination, your thoughts will be incorporated into a personalized treatment plan.

Preventative dentistry

Having healthy teeth and gums not only enhances your appearance, but it also affects overall wellness. Issues like tooth loss and gum disease can contribute to larger health concerns, such as diabetes complications, increased risk of stroke and in pregnant women, premature birth. So we take your oral health seriously. Our New Farm dental practice cares about this community and will help all patients improve and maintain their smiles for a lifetime, with preventive dentistry.

Routine checkups and regular hygiene visits, as well as proper home care, are key elements of a complete oral health regimen. We suggest checkups and cleanings twice a year so that we can perform a full assessment of your teeth and gums. These visits will also include a periodontal (gum) evaluation, bite analysis, and tooth-by-tooth exam, which will provide us with a clear picture of your current oral health.

Once our New Farm dental practitioner – Dr Mark Calvert, understands your needs, we can customize a plan for addressing issues and renewing your smile. With regular checkups, we can identify minor problems early so that they don’t generate major problems later. If you need restorations such as a filling or crown, we will select the finest materials and work with top laboratories to ensure a gorgeous, healthy smile.

Crowns and bridges

Despite your best efforts, your teeth may need restorative treatment, such as crowns. Small areas of decay usually respond well to traditional fillings. If a large part of your tooth sustains damage or you have a substantial cavity, we may suggest a dental crown. Also called a “cap”, a dental crown restores the integrity and appearance of a tooth.

Depending on the location of the tooth, we can place an all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), or gold crown. Your dental crown procedure will occur during two visits. At the first appointment, Dr Mark Calvert will prepare your tooth, take an impression for the dental lab, and create a temporary crown. Patients return for final placement when we receive the new restoration from our laboratory.

A dental bridge is used to close space left by a missing teeth. Made of two crowns with one or more replacement teeth between them, a bridge is cemented in place. Bridges allow our patients to enjoy solid, attractive smiles.

Porcelain veneers

If you feel unhappy about the color, size or shape of your teeth, consider porcelain veneers at our practice in Brisbane. Our dentist, Dr Mark Calvert, has helped many patients improve their smiles with the help of dental veneers. These beautiful restorations are thin shells of high-quality porcelain, designed to make front teeth more attractive.

The porcelain veneers our cosmetic dentist chooses are translucent and durable, so they look natural and endure the rigors of daily chewing and temperature fluctuations. In your preparatory visit, Dr Mark Calvert will evaluate your facial features, skin tone, mouth shape and personal preferences when designing exquisite veneers to transform your smile. From design to placement, the whole veneer process typically takes just two visits.

During the first procedure appointment, the dentist will prepare your teeth, take impressions for the ceramist, and place temporary veneers. The temporaries will allow you to become accustomed to the look and feel for your new smile. After your handcrafted porcelain veneers arrive in our practice, the dentist will cement them on in a second visit, and you can immediately enjoy a perfectly aligned, white smile.

When you look your best, you exude self-assurance and grace to the people you meet. Crooked or crowded teeth detract from your polished appearance and keep you from projecting warmth to others. These crowding problems can also make home care and maintenance difficult, so you may be more susceptible to gum disease, tooth decay, and even tooth loss. Without treatment, orthodontic problems may result in excessive stress on supporting tissues, inefficient chewing, abnormal wear on tooth surfaces not to mention the fact that your smile is not what you’d like it to be.

Because we want our patients to enjoy a great smile as well as optimal oral health and function, we offer a variety of orthodontic services. Many issues can be addressed using modern orthodontic techniques such as Invisalign/Clear Correct (clear aligners), Inman Aligner and tooth-coloured braces.

Traditionally, orthodontics has involved metal brackets and wires. Braces apply a gentle, constant force to slowly move teeth into the desired position. As dentistry has advanced, braces have also changed, so you have other choices to accomplish your goals. Ceramic brackets, Incognito lingual braces, and Invisalign clear aligners are options that straighten teeth for improved appearance and function.

Clear correct is a great, modern alternative to traditional wire braces. With clear, removable aligners most people won’t even notice that you are wearing them. Click here to find out more.

Root canal

Whenever possible, our dentists want to preserve your natural teeth. A successful root canal can repair an internally damaged tooth to the point that it won’t need extraction. Any discomfort you feel actually comes from the infection inside your tooth, not the procedure itself, and Dr Mark Calvert always makes sure patients remain safe and comfortable during any procedure. After your root canal, the infection inside your tooth will subside, and so will your discomfort.

Your tooth contains an outer shell of enamel, a softer layer of dentin, and an inner core called pulp that contains nerves and blood vessels. Deep decay or significant trauma can allow bacteria to infiltrate the tooth’s canal, which creates an infection that causes the pulp to die. If this happens, pressure builds up inside, and you can develop an abscess. Without treatment, you could suffer more discomfort and may even lose the tooth.

Root Canal Process

During your treatment, our dentist will remove the diseased tissue, disinfect the area, and fill the canal with a bio-compatible material. After your root canal treatment, the tooth may need a crown to protect the remaining tooth structure.

Dentistry for children

As a well-established family practice, New Farm Dental Studio (previously Envisage Dental) has been with many of our patients from their early years. We have seen many of our young patients from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. Because our dentists are parents themselves, we treat your children with the same care and compassion we would want for our own children.

When a child has a negative dental experience, it can cause them to develop dental anxiety as adults. Because we understand this lasting impact, we are committed to making your child’s early dental visits stress-free and positive.

Dental Emergency

In a perfect world, you would only require dental services during regular business hours. Often, situations arise that require emergency dentistry after hours. Because we understand these unusual circumstances, our dentist, Dr Mark Calvert, offers patients compassionate care whenever the need arises.

We understand that when you have a dental emergency, it can be distressing and inconvenient. That’s why we will always deal with your dental emergency efficiently, addressing your issue and making you comfortable as quickly as possible. Our dentists are skilled at handling all types of dental emergencies, ranging from toothaches to chipped or broken teeth to impacted wisdom teeth and broken dentures.

Toothache Emergency

It is important to get a toothache treated as soon as possible, as it’s a sign of an underlying problem with a tooth or multiple teeth. If left untreated, the issue may worsen over time. Treating the dental problem early will most likely be less costly and extensive than if the problem is left alone.  Sometimes a toothache may go away, however the problem that caused the toothache originally will remain and most likely worsen until it is treated by a Dentist.

Painless injections

For many people, the dreaded injection is the most stressful and unpleasant part of a visit to the dentist. Thanks to your New Farm dentist, you can now enjoy painless injections with the aid of “the wand”, a state-of-the-art local anaesthetic technique.

The wand is a computerised anaesthetic delivery system used by your New Farm dentist to ensure a slow and regular flow of anaesthetic into the oral tissues. By controlling the rate of flow, the wand effectively lowers the pressure of the fluid being injected, preventing the major source of pain and discomfort associated with local anaesthesia.

Our patients report that, combined with careful technique on the part of your New Farm dentist, the wand eliminates the pain and discomfort associated with local anaesthetic injections. What’s more, the wand is a great alternative to traditional anaesthetic delivery for children.

Imagine a dental appointment where you can sit back, relax, and have your treatment carried out without feeling anxious about pain from your injection. Thanks to the latest in technology from your New Farm dentist, all this is now possible.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Are your wisdom teeth causing you pain or discomfort? No need to worry!

The team at New Farm Dental Studio have it covered. Our dentist, Dr Pablo Regueiro is on hand to remove your problematic tooth quickly and efficiently. Dr Pablo has vast experience and a special interest in wisdom tooth removal.

Wisdom tooth removal is a common practice and once the tooth is gone the discomfort will subside.

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to appear, usually erupting between the ages of 15-25. Wisdom teeth often cause discomfort when erupting. The new tooth can be overcrowded, if it is misaligned it may put pressure on surrounding bone and nerves. As the tooth erupts through the gum, the tissue becomes open to bacteria and infection may develop.

SAFE Removal of Mercury Fillings

Mercury fillings need replacing? Do it the right way...

We have all heard about the dangers of mercury fillings. Many of our patients choose to replace their mercury (amalgam) fillings with a much friendlier composite option which also looks far more discreet. A win win situation!

Our experienced dentist, Dr Mark Calvert, here at New Farm Dental Studio, will safely remove your unwanted mercury fillings and replace with white composite material.

Sports Mouthguards

Protecting your teeth during high contact sports is essential, but statistics also show that cycling and skateboarding are responsible for large proportion of dental emergencies!

You only have one set so look after them well. An easy fix is to wear a sports mouthguard.

Ready made mouthguards can be uncomfortable and distracting. We custom fit and supply triple laminated quality mouthguards so that you can focus back on the sport.
